K-Tron Introduces Next Generation of Gravimetric Blenders Utilizing New BSP Feeder Technology

PITMAN, NJ (December 12, 2003)-The K-Tron Feeder Group introduced its next generation of continuous gravimetric blenders, the K4G Blender, at ChinaPlas, December 4-7, 2003 in Beijing, PR China. The K4G Blender incorporates K-Tron's new feeding technology, the Bulk Solids Pump (BSP), which was also introduced at ChinaPlas.

K-Tron first introduced the K2G Blending System in 1997. The K4G, like the K2G, is designed as a complete package for plastics compounding and other extrusion applications with one to eight feeder modules. Key new features offered with the K4G system are the incorporation of the new K-Tron Bulk Solids Pump (BSP) feeder, the option of selecting from four different types of feeders to be incorporated into the blender system-vastly extending the range of materials and feedrates to be handled by one blending system, a blender stand design that allows the rearrangement of any of these four types of feeders at any feeder station, utilization of K-Tron's next generation of weighing technology-- the SFT III, a compact blender frame with integrated support for vacuum refill systems and utilization of K-Tron newest feeder controllers, the Smart HiPo controller (KSHM) and the Smart Stepper Controller (KSSM) for BSP feeders..

Two models of K-Tron's new Bulk Solids Pump (BSP) positive displacement feeder for free flowing materials can be incorporated into the K4G Blender stand: The BSP 100 with feed rate ranges from 2 to 200 cubic dm/hr. (0.07 to 7 cubic ft/hr) and the BSP 125 with feed rate ranges from 9 to 900 cubic dm/hr (0.32 to 32 cubic ft/hr). The K4G can also incorporate two types of single screw feeders-the K4G-L single screw feeder and the KQx single screw feeder for especially low rates, as well as the KT20 twin screw feeder for powders and difficult to handle materials. This range of feeder modules allows the blender to offer individual feed rates as low as 0.12 cubic dm/hr (0.003 cubic ft/hr) to as high as 2800 cubic dm/hr (100 cubic ft/hr).

The flexibility of the blender's design to incorporate such a variety of feeders, materials and feed rates offers processors the security of knowing that one blender can handle virtually any future need. The blending chamber itself is designed with interchangeable panels that allow the processor to place any feeder at any station.

K-Tron's Smart Force Transducer (SFT) III vibrating wire weighing technology is utilized, which incorporates all of the vibration immunity introduced with the SFT II in a housing that allows for more flexible mounting.
