Jos. Koepfer & Sohne GmbH Introduces Model KX120 CNC Gear Grinding Machine

South Elgin, IL, July 1, 2004: The KOEPFER KAPP KX120 gear grinding machine combines current technology with maximum versatility and flexibility. The eight axes of CNC control on the Model KX120 allow all possible gear cutting applications to be accomplished. This model is equipped with eight axes of CNC control and a BWO 900 CNC control for hard-finishing operations of gears and shafts.

The KOEPFER KAPP KX120 has been designed to close the production gap between skiving on gear hobbing machines and gear grinding on specially developed gear grinding machines.

This machine is equipped with a direct drive 12,000 RPM high-speed grinding head.

The grinding process will use KAPP CBN-plated grinding worms. The tool consists of a steel body that has been hardened, profile ground, and galvanically-plated with a single layer of CBN.

Very short cycle times are guaranteed due to the small outside diameter (80 mm), multi-thread grinding worms, and the continuous grinding process.

The KOEPFER KAPP KX120 is based on the KOEPFER MODEL 200. As such, the machine can be equipped with one of KOEPFER's standard, flexible automation systems. This ensures a simple, yet effective solution for the automatic loading and unloading of components in a production environment.

In addition to the use of CBN-plated grinding worms, it is also possible to use profile wheels for form grinding.
