Original Press Release:

New Parvus DuraNET 20-10 Doubles Port Count, Slashes Power Consumption 50%

www.cwcdefense.com="">HELI-EXPO 2014, ANAHEIM, Calif. – Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division has introduced a new Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Switch subsystem, the Parvus DuraNET 20-10, that delivers double the port count of its previous GbE Switch products, while drastically reducing power consumption ~50% per port and reducing the unit’s volume size by ~26%. The fully featured SWaP-optimized subsystem provides true carrier-grade Ethernet software Layer-2 management features, including support for the IEEE-1588 Precision Timing Protocol (PTP). The DuraNET 20-10 speeds and simplifies the interconnection of large numbers of IP-enabled embedded devices, such as computers, cameras, sensors, and command-and-control equipment, deployed in manned and unmanned system platforms at the network edge. This rugged, compact COTS subsystem is designed for use on defense and aerospace platforms in harsh military environments, such as tactical ground vehicles and rotary and fixed wing aircraft.

“Our new Parvus DuraNET 20-10 continues Curtiss-Wright’s commitment to deliver the most advanced, cost-effective rugged networking solutions for demanding defense and aerospace platforms,” said Lynn Bamford, Sr. VP/GM, Defense Solutions division. “Its a stand-out addition to our broad portfolio of standalone rugged network switch subsystems and provides our customers with a new level of SWaP-C reduction for technology refresh and new platform designs.”

Designed for optimal performance in harsh conditions, the rugged COTS unit features MIL-DTL-38999 connectors in a sealed IP67 (dust/water proof) aluminum chassis. Small and lightweight, the DuraNET 20-10 makes no compromises in GbE Switch performance with fully managed Layer 2 networking features, 20 ports of 10/100/1000Mbps connectivity, and an integrated management processor. Its extremely low power overhead enables reliable LAN switching across extended operating temperature ranges (-40 to +71C). Built for the extreme shock/vibration conditions typical of military applications, the DuraNET 20-10 is designed to meet MIL-STD-461F EMI/EMC and MIL-STD-810G thermal, shock, vibe, humidity, altitude, and ingress conditions.

Ideal for use in new platform designs or to refresh older technology in existing platforms, DuraNET 20-10 features no moving parts, a near cable-less internal design, industrial temperature grade components, EMI filtering, and isolated MIL-STD-1275/704 power supply that protects against vehicle/aircraft voltage surges, spikes and transients.

This new 20-port GbE Switch complements Curtiss-Wright’s Parvus DuraMAR 5915 router and Parvus DuraCOR 80-40 mission computer. If desired, the unit can be factory configured in multi-function combo-configurations, such as “computer + switch,” “router + switch,” or “computer + router + switch” configurations.
