Gas Standards Generator creates gas mixtures to over 500 ppm.
November 9, 2010 -
FlexStream(TM) Gas Standards Generator creates mixtures by diluting emission from permeation tubes, or diffusion tubes, with inert diluent. In Trace Source(TM) permeation tubes, alpha-polyoxymethylene decomposes to maintain stable vapor pressure of formaldehyde and stable emission rate of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde emitted from tube is mixed with zero air in FlexStream(TM) instrument to form trace concentration gas standard. Emission flow measurements are traceable to NIST.

Gas Standards for Formaldehyde
Trace Source(TM) Permeation Tubes used with KIN-TEK's new FlexStream(TM) Gas Standards Generator dynamically blend trace concentrations of formaldehyde in air. Mixtures can range from low ppb to over 500 ppm.
Obtaining accurate gas standards has been particularly difficult because formaldehyde vapor condenses to a solid polymer at temperatures below 80°C, resulting in unstable concentration in stored mixtures.
In Trace Source(TM) permeation tubes, alpha-polyoxymethylene, a high purity formaldehyde polymer, decomposes to maintain a stable vapor pressure of formaldehyde and consequently a stable emission rate of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde emitted from the Trace Source(TM) tube is mixed with zero air in the FlexStream(TM) instrument to form the trace concentration gas standard.
Emission flow measurements are traceable to NIST through fundamental measurements (weight change, temperature, etc.). Mixing the emission flow with a traceable flow dilution gas creates a traceable mixture.
