Emerson Introduces Automated Gas Pressure Delivery Solution for Commercial and Industrial Facilities

Turnkey Solution Integrates Gas-Pressure Boosting With Automatic Pressure and Flow Control Functionality

SIDNEY, Ohio, - Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today announced the introduction of an automated gas-pressure delivery solution featuring variable speed Copeland Scroll® compressor technology. In response to market demand and customer inquiries, Emerson's new, automated, gas-pressure boosting and control solutions can be rapidly deployed and installed for trouble-free operation. Emerson's configurable solutions offer increased application flexibility, higher single-stage pressure capability, lower maintenance costs and reduced sound levels when compared to conventional compressor-based systems.

Many industrial and commercial facilities require higher gas supply pressure than is available from adjacent gas utility pipelines or conventional onsite tank systems. As a result, end-use customers must absorb costly pipeline pressure upgrades, install gas pressure boosting equipment or bear the inherently higher costs associated with delivering and refilling of on-site, higher pressure gas storage and distribution systems.

In response, Emerson's new offering provides cost-effective, flexible gas-pressure/flow delivery and automated control. The systems feature standardized equipment assemblies, configured for the specific application. Pressure and flow control systems are integrated to match specific site or process operating conditions. Many applications require constant discharge pressure as high as 150-200 psig - independent of the flow condition or demand change. With Emerson's automated gas system capability, many dry gas streams can be boosted and controlled to discharge pressures of up to 300 psig. These systems can be deployed in a wide variety of industrial facilities and processes as shown below:

o Testing and laboratories (universities, industrial and municipal facilities)
o Process gas recovery (LNG boil off gas, helium, nitrogen, methane)
o Power generation fuel gas (turbines, engines, fuel cells)
o Industrial boilers and furnaces (process heating, steam generation)
o Marginal gas well production

Facility owners frequently need alternative gas supply options to meet specific and often varying requirements found in their operations. One such end user, and Emerson customer, is Wagner Equipment Company of Aurora, Colorado - a large distributor and service center for Caterpillar heavy equipment and natural gas engines.

"Emerson provided a turnkey solution for fuel gas pressure and flow control, enabling us to efficiently test (dynamometer) all of our rebuilt Caterpillar gas engines, as well as helping us work within our budget and facility design needs," said Kevin Pomeroy, Facilities and Maintenance Manager, Wagner Equipment.
Since its market introduction in 2001, Emerson's Copeland Scroll gas-compressor technology has steadily gained acceptance within the upstream and distribution segments of the gas industry. Today there are thousands of Copeland Scroll gas compressors operating in a wide variety of gas production, processing and supply applications.

"Natural gas has long been prized as a clean, efficient fuel and recent production technology advancements have made it an abundant and cost-effective energy resource," said Mark McCormick, director for gas compression at Emerson Climate Technologies. "Emerson is successfully applying its Copeland Scroll compressor technology not only in natural gas distribution, but in various utility and industrial gas applications, such as well as helium and nitrogen delivery and recovery."
