Leica Geosystems Introduces Economical One-Person RTK GPS Survey System

(Norcross, Ga., 31 July 2006) Leica Geosystems today announced the introduction of the GPS900, an economical GPS surveying system designed to boost productivity on the job for a wide range of surveying and construction tasks.

The GPS900 RTK System is a complete base and rover system conveniently packaged in a single ruggedized case, providing a complete, low-cost, turnkey GPS surveying solution that can be easily transported to and from the work site.

The GPS900 rover is a lightweight, all-on-the-pole, cableless, dual-frequency RTK GPS surveying instrument designed specifically with one-person operation in mind, increasing efficiency and productivity over conventional total stations, which usually require a two-person crew.

"The new GPS900 is being introduced to provide customers with an affordable entry-level GPS surveying system offering high accuracy, Leica's reliable performance and easy one-person operation," said Carl Singleton, product marketing manager for Leica Geosystems.

"With the GPS900, one person can quickly and easily tackle many construction-site surveying tasks, such as foundation layouts and drainage work, topographic and as-built surveys, and even road alignment stakeouts." Singleton added. "The GPS900 system allows the flexibility you need on any project site. And with no more worries about line-of-sight, you can move quickly to the point, measure it, and move on. It's that simple."

The GPS900 incorporates Leica Geosystems' proven SmartCheck GPS RTK technology. The system provides centimeter-level accuracy even under difficult conditions, fast acquisition times, 2 Hz position update rate, and has a range of 1.5 miles from the base station.

The new GPS900 RTK system is easy to learn, with all functions controlled through the large graphic display, using intuitive touch screen or keypad controls. Large graphical map views let the operator see what has been measured, what has been staked out and what still needs to be done. All points, measurements and codes are stored in the internal memory. Data can be exported to any Leica total station or GPS survey system.

The robust GPS900 units meet MIL-STD-810F standards for temperature, water, dust and sand protection.
