Motorola Launches Video-Optimized Gigabit Passive Optical Networking Solution - Leveraging Proven Optical Access Platform for New Ultra-Broadband Service Delivery

CHICAGO, June 19 -- Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT) at NXTcomm 2007 today announced the next generation of its proven high-density all IP optical access platform's support of Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON), a 200 Gigabit (Gb) advanced switching architecture with onboard high-capacity single and ten Gb WAN interfaces and support of ten Gb to each application unit resulting in full GPON line-rate throughput to the access network.

Additionally, Motorola is introducing an intelligent and fully featured line of small business, high-density multi-dwelling units and both indoor and outdoor single family home GPON optical network terminals (ONTs).

The new GPON solution portfolio builds on the strength of Motorola's industry deployed AXS2200 optical access technology to expand available WAN and access network throughput capacity needed for the delivery of advanced ultra-broadband services. Both the platform hardware and software have already proven their high performance and reliability in successful, large-scale video, broadband Internet and quality voice deployments. Built to seamlessly support considerable rates of growth in unicast video content and ultra-broadband Internet access, the Motorola GPON solution is optimized to support dynamic video traffic patterns and sustained subscriber throughput of 200 Mbps symmetrical -- with burst rate capacity of up to 400 Mbps.

"Our next-generation optical access platform is video-optimized and designed to power advanced services into the connected home," said Kevin Keefe, vice president of marketing, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility. "Ultra-Broadband capacity is crucial as demand grows for high-definition content, time-shifted television and converged IP applications. With our new GPON solution, we've significantly boosted processing and capacity to meet that demand, while still relying on the technology platform that service providers have grown to trust over the course of several years and successful traditional video and IPTV implementations."

Motorola's optical access platform includes the high-density, multi-protocol AXS2200 and the AXS1800 Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) as well as intelligent Optical Network Terminals (ONTs). This technology was first deployed in the United States for Hybrid RF and IPTV implementations in 2005. (View related release: Verizon Selects Motorola to Provide Optical Equipment ... )

Motorola will highlight its GPON solution at NXTcomm 2007, along with its entire end-to-end suite of IPTV technology.
