Motorola Expands LTE Solution with New, Frame-Based eNodeB

Motorola WBR 500 series delivers exceptional coverage and capacity performance; gives operators deployment flexibility and significant total cost of ownership benefits

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Home & Networks Mobility business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the addition of the Wireless Broadband Radio (WBR) 500 series frame-based eNodeB to its LTE portfolio. The WBR 500 frame-based series complements the WBR 500 remote RF-based eNodeB series introduced earlier this year. As part of Motorola's complete LTE solution, the Motorola WBR 500 series LTE Macro eNodeB delivers on the promise of LTE with exceptional coverage and capacity performance, even in the most challenging RF environments.

Motorola's WBR 500 series is an LTE standards-based solution built using Motorola's fully programmable FLeX Modem technology. The WBR 500 series can be deployed in both new and existing GSM, UMTS, HSPA, CDMA, or TD-SCDMA cell sites, and will support Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) or Time Division Duplex (TDD). It will be available in a range of frequencies from 700MHz to 2.6GHz with bandwidths from 1.4 MHz to 20MHz.

"LTE is an exciting new technology that will let users enjoy a desktop-like broadband experience while on the go, but it also presents an array of new technical challenges for operators, " said Bruce Brda, senior vice president and general manager, Wireless Networks, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. "Motorola is a leading contributor to the LTE standards and has years of experience in designing and deploying optimized, end-to-end, flat all-IP networks. This expertise has given us the ability to deliver an LTE solution with our eNodeB that operators can rely on to provide the coverage and capacity needed to support their customers' growing demands for mobile broadband."

The WBR 500 series leverages Motorola's Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and advanced antenna technology expertise, along with extensive field experience, to provide a spectrally efficient and modular design that supports a large variety of site deployment scenarios. The environmentally conscious WBR 500 series is designed to deliver superior power efficiency through advanced amplifier technologies to give operators a solution that saves energy use and trims operating expenses.

Motorola's LTE Solution
Motorola continues to build its LTE momentum with the demonstration of LTE expertise during the world's first TD-LTE live drive demo at ITU Telecom in Geneva. This follows successful live LTE drive experiences earlier this year in Barcelona, Las Vegas, and Sweden. Motorola has been selected by KDDI as a key vendor to help develop and implement KDDI's nationwide LTE network. Motorola also is engaged in LTE trial activity with other operators in North America, Europe and Asia, and operates an LTE trial network and testing lab in Swindon, UK.

Motorola's LTE solution is comprised of its OFDM broadband platform and a selection of radio options that include multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and smart antennas. It also features Motorola's advanced self-organizing network (SON) solution. Motorola's WBR 500 series LTE eNodeB offers flexible deployment options with frame based-mounted radios, remote radio heads and tower top radios to support a wide variety of LTE deployment scenarios across numerous spectrum bands to meet the needs of the global market.

Motorola's LTE portfolio also includes its evolved packet core (EPC) solution - the Wireless Broadband Core (WBC) 700 portfolio, backhaul, network management solutions, video solutions that monetize LTE investment, and a complete portfolio of professional services. The Motorola WBC 700 is comprised of Motorola's mobility management entity (MME), packet and serving gateways (P-GW and S-GW), and a policy and charging rules function server (PCRF).

Motorola's LTE portfolio has won multiple awards, including its EPC and advanced SON solutions being named recipients of the 2009 4GWE LTE Visionary Award. In addition the SON was recognized in the Service Management category at the 2009 CTIA Wireless E-Tech Competition, EPC as a finalist in the 2009 InfoVision Awards, and the eNodeB received a 2009 Next Generation Networks Leadership Award.
