March 1, 2011 - Supplied in DFN package, MD0105 consumes 200 µA while protecting receiver circuitry of ultrasound systems against high-voltage transmitter pulses. Bi-directional NC switch, governed by control that monitors voltage drop across terminals A and B, opens when voltage difference exceeds ±2.0 V and does not close until cross-terminal voltage drops below 2.0 V. IC replaces discrete transmit/receive solution and does not require requires diode bridges, inductors, resistors, or power rails.

Four Channel Transmit/Receive Switch from Supertex Delivers 260V Peak-to-Peak Protection

MD0105 Protects Low Noise Receivers in Ultrasound Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Supertex, Inc. (Nasdaq GS: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the MD0105, a high voltage, two terminal, bi-directional voltage protection device. The patented, four channel MD0105 consumes minimal power (200uA) while protecting receiver circuitry of ultrasound systems from high voltage transmitter pulses.

MD0105 is a normally closed switch governed by a switch control that monitors the voltage drop across terminals A and B. The switch will open if the voltage difference exceeds +/-2.0V. In the open state, 200uA of current will flow through the switch to determine if the high voltage is present. The switch does not close until the cross-terminal voltage drops below 2.0V.

The IC replaces the conventional discrete transmit/receive solution and requires no diode bridges, inductors, resistors or power rails. The IC typically reduces component counts from up to 48 to one. Because the IC doesn't require a power supply, MD0105 dramatically reduces noise in ultrasound circuits, thereby enhancing dynamic range.

"Supertex's MD0105 gives ultrasound system designers an easily implementable solution that protects downstream low noise receivers while consuming minimal power and board space," states Stephen Lin, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. "It features fast switching speeds and low on resistance of 15 ohms for minimal return signal attenuation and ultrasound images that are virtually undistorted."

MD0105 is available in an 18-lead DFN package (MD0105K6-G). The part is RoHS compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$3.58 each for the MD0105K6-G in 1K quantities.
