NAG Announces Availability of the NAG f95 Compiler for AMD64 and Linux

Oxford, UK and Chicago, IL, USA - 22 April 2003 - At the AMD Opteron(TM) processor launch, the world's leading provider of mathematical and statistical algorithms, the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG), announced the availability of the NAG f95 Compiler for AMD64 and Linux.

The availability of the NAG f95 Compiler coincides with the beta release of the AMD Core Math Library (ACML) - the collaborative project between AMD and NAG to produce a core numerical library optimized for existing and upcoming AMD processors including the AMD Opteron(TM) and AMD Athlon(TM) 64 processors.

"NAG is excited to announce the availability of its Fortran compiler for the new AMD64 and Linux platform," said Dr Brian Ford, CEO, NAG. "NAG's experience of porting its compiler to many environments, along with the quality of the platforms and the tools provided by AMD and their partners, means that we have been able to provide a leading-edge Fortran compiler at launch time for the AMD Opteron(TM) processor."

The NAG f95 Compiler supports the Fortran 95 language in its entirety, High Performance Fortran, and legacy Fortran 77 code. Originally developed as the world's first Fortran 90 Compiler, f95 is robust, thoroughly tested, and incorporates compilation and run-time debugging features that can significantly reduce development time. It also includes features of the Fortran 2000 standard for Allocatable Components and for IEEE Floating Point Exception Handling. Finally, the NAG f95 compiler recognizes many common extensions for Fortran 77 to provide support for legacy code.

"With the NAG f95 Compiler for AMD64 and Linux, developers will have a simplified migration path to AMD 64-bit technology for even the most computationally intensive applications," said Rich Heye, vice president and general manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit. "NAG support for the AMD Opteron processor platform will help provide the resources customers need to realize the power of 64-bit computing in the x86 environment."

About NAG f95 Compiler

In 1991 the NAGWare f90 Compiler was the world's first Fortran 90 compiler. In 1997 full support for Fortran 95 was added and the compiler's name changed to f95; then in 1999, with Release 4.0, NAG launched the world's first compiler with Fortran 2000 features. The latest release of the NAG f95 Compiler brings further innovations and refinements in the areas of error detection and improved performance. NAGWare users can therefore take advantage of programming in the Fortran standard of the future, while retaining the reliability, stability and portability of the proven NAG compiler.
