Fluoroelastomers suit electrical submersible pump bladders.

Press Release Summary:

Classified by ASTM D 1418-01 as FEPM, AFLAS® 100 Series comprises fluoroelastomers for electrical submersible pump bladders and polymeric products used in extreme downhole environments. Compounds based on AFLAS 100 series can withstand temperature, pressure, and corrosive elements. These copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene impart flexibility, toughness, and resistance to chemicals, heat, and steam. Mechanical properties do not deteriorate, even upon prolonged exposure to 392°F.

AFLAS 100 Series Fluoroelastomers are Preferred Products for Electrical Submersible Pump Bladders

Products being featured at OTC 2013 Show

EXTON, Pa. – AGC Chemicals Americas, Inc., today formally introduced its AFLAS® 100 Series fluoroelastomers for electrical submersible pump (ESP) bladders and polymeric products used in extreme downhole environments. Compounds based on AFLAS 100 series products can withstand the temperature, pressure and corrosive elements inherent to oil and gas recovery.

Classified by ASTM D 1418-01 as FEPM, AFLAS fluoroelastomers are copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene. This combination gives AFLAS fluoroelastomers unique properties over conventional FKM-type fluoroelastomers. AFLAS products impart outstanding flexibility, toughness, and resistance to chemicals, heat and steam. The mechanical properties of AFLAS do not deteriorate even when used for prolonged exposure to 200°C (392°F).

“These characteristics help oil producers extend the downhole life of ESPs, which reduces maintenance and downtime,” said Drew D’Agosta, AGC Sales & Marketing Manager for AFLAS. “These products have a proven history of exceling in amine- and base-rich environments commonly found in oil and gas exploration, completion and production.”

AFLAS products impart similar benefits when formulated into other oilfield items such as packings, O-rings, seals, gaskets, sensor parts, and wire and cable coatings.

AFLAS 100 series fluoroelastomers will be featured at AGC’s booth #1103 at this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) taking place May 6 to 9 in Houston.
