New Post On Enersys' GU/GT Flooded Batteries Provides Flexible Installation And Simplifies Maintenance

Reading, PA, April 2004 - EnerSys has introduced a new post for its GU/GT line of flooded batteries, which are used for long duration float applications such as central office and mobile switching office standby power. The new square post is cross-drilled to allow for easy installation of battery cells in any direction, providing users more flexibility when configuring a battery system, as well as simplifying maintenance during operation.

The new GU/GT post has been redesigned from oblong to square to increase the contact surface area, allowing the post to be drilled in both directions. With the post's new cross-drilled configuration, the GU/GT batteries are easily configurable in any cell orientation, with the plates either parallel to the rack support rails to optimize battery system footprint or perpendicular to the rails for easier element inspection, depending on the user's preference.

The new post design enables cell maintenance without taking the entire battery system offline. This is due to the ability to use four intercell connectors regardless of cell orientation with the new GU/GT post - two connectors can be left in operation while the other two connectors are being cleaned.

The EnerSys GU/GT product line ranges from 930 Ah to 3900 Ah, and is the largest flame retardant clear flooded battery in the industry. The GU battery features flat plate construction with calcium alloy grids (antimony alloy grids for the GT battery) ideal for any long duration float application, especially telecommunications; flame retardant (32% L.O.I.) Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or standard Styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN) plastic containers; and flame retardant PVC covers (32% L.O.I., UL-94-V0). The batteries also employ EnerSys' exclusive Slide Lock(TM) post seals that allow natural plate growth over time without degrading the seal and an innovative tongue and groove jar-to-cover seal to prevent leakage.

A variety of installation services and preventative maintenance packages for GU/GT batteries are available from EnerSys.

Pricing for the EnerSys GU battery starts at $1,602. Delivery is 2-4 weeks ARO. Additional information on the GU/GT batteries is available online at www.enersysreservepower.com/catalog.asp or by contacting an EnerSys sales representative at http://www.enersysreservepower.com/sales.asp.
