May 3, 2007 - Cement-housed, vertical-mount power resistors come in wirewound (CVW) and film (CVF) versions, both of which have specifications suited for high-volume applications in temperatures from -55 to +275°C. While CVW Series features resistance values from 0.1-910 W, CVF Series has 28-200,000 W range. Standard tolerances for both commercial-grade series are to ±5% and ±10%, with TCRs of ±400 ppm/°C at less than 20 W and ±350 ppm/°C at 20 W and above.

IRC Offers Flameproof Vertical Mount Power Resistors for Use in Harsh Environments

BOONE, N.C. (April 16, 2007) - Providing design engineers with economical power resistors with an extended resistance range, TT electronics IRC Wire and Film Technologies Division now offers commercial grade cement housed vertical mount power wirewound and film resistors. Designated the CVW (wirewound) and CVF (film) Series, the resistors feature ideal specifications for high volume and high temperature applications.

"The vertical mount configuration gives the device a minimal footprint, making it ideal for applications where PC board space is at a premium," said David Winkler, product manager for IRC's Wire and Film Technologies Division. "With the extended resistance range and high temperature rating, the resistors can be specified for operation in harsh environments."

The CVW and CVF Series resistors are ideal for industrial applications, including power electronics circuits, voltage dividers, power supplies and motor controllers.

The CVW Series wirewound resistors feature a resistance range from 0.1W to 910W, while the CVF Series film resistors have a resistance range of 28W to 200KW. Standard tolerances for both devices are to ±5% and ±10%, with TCRs of ±400ppm/°C at less than 20W and ±350ppm/°C at 20W and above. Operating temperature range is -55°C to +275°C.

Typical pricing for the CVW and CVF Series resistors is $.085 to $0.17 each, depending on R-values, in quantities of 10K pieces. Lead time is from stock to 6 weeks.
