Magnolia Plastics, Inc Announces New Fire Retardant Adhesive for the Aerospace Industry

Chamblee, GA - (August 11, 2009) -Magnolia Plastics, Inc., a leading manufacturer and global supplier of high-performance epoxy systems and custom epoxy formulations, announced a new fire retardant epoxy adhesive developed for use in commercial aircraft cabins and anywhere honeycomb panels may be used.

Magnobond 5925 epoxy adhesive was designed to bond honeycomb aircraft interior panels and for a specific application known as "ditch-and-pot". This process involves cutting a u-like "ditch" in the panel, filling with adhesive and folding to form a right angle structure. Magnobond 5925 is ideally suited for a wide range of aerospace interior and other epoxy paste adhesive applications that require an adhesive product highly resistant to fire such as:

  • Aircraft OEM (and their subcontractors') metal-to-metal, composite-to-composite or metal-to-composite bonding
  • Metal and/or composite sandwich (honeycomb to skin) structure manufacture or repair
  • Aircraft interior structural adhesive bonding in areas that require flexibility, fire resistance and good vibration resistance

Magnobond 5925 is a two-component, room temperature curing epoxy paste adhesive having excellent fire resistant capabilities, peel strength and high temperature shear properties on a wide range of surfaces. Magnobond 5925 is solvent-free and has excellent chemical, moisture and environmental resistance as well.

Magnobond 5925 can be packaged in any 2:1 mix ratio side-by-side cartridges. An MC-10-18 static mixer is recommended.

Rick Wells, CEO of Magnolia Plastics, Inc. said, "I am always proud of our staff and what they have accomplished, but I am particularly proud of this achievement as Magnobond 5925 will greatly improve the safety of all commercial airliners and the traveling public."

Magnolia will be exhibiting at CompositesWorld Expo 2009, September 28-30 in Schaumberg, IL, SAMPE 2009 Fall Tech Conference, October 20-21 in Wichita, KS and the Dubai Air Show, Nov 15-19.
