HOUSTON, Texas and WESTMINSTER, Massachusetts (April 26, 2002) - SimplexGrinnell, a business unit of Tyco International Ltd. 's (NYSE: TYC, LSE: TYI, BSX: TYC) Fire & Security Division and a leader in fire protection, life safety and integrated security, today introduced a breakthrough technology - an Internet-based communications link that enables facility managers and building owners to use a web browser to monitor the status of their fire alarm system from off-site locations.
Simplex(R) SafeLINC(R), a new UL-listed product available from SimplexGrinnell, allows authorized users, through an Internet connection, to access fire alarm system information from a personal computer, laptop, personal digital assistant, or pager. In the event of an alarm or trouble condition, SafeLINC automatically sends an email to designated staff informing them of the situation.
While SafeLINC is an online tool that can be used to remotely view and distribute fire alarm system information, it doesn't affect the operation of the primary fire alarm system or allow any control functions to be performed. Rather, it's an Internet link that:
- Provides seamless and secure two-way communications for authorized users to review current system activity.
- Automatically emails specified personnel in the event of an alarm.
- Lets facility managers select who will receive fire alarm system information - and what information will be sent to them.

Ideal for colleges and universities, large K-12 school districts, and multi-building hospitals, SafeLINC can easily be hooked into a customer's existing network infrastructure. The SafeLINC module mounts internally to a fire alarm control panel, and is installed behind the network firewall to maintain maximum security. After logging on to the Internet connection, a second level of passcodes internal to the fire panel is used to review data at protected levels.

In the near future, new functionality will be added so that SafeLINC can be used to send historical reports of fire alarm system activity to designated staff and to download fire alarm system program changes and software upgrades directly from the Internet.
