Siemens Introduces New Enhancements to Its MXL Life Safety System

Fire Safety division of Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., Florham Park, NJ has introduced a new main board and a new display to its MXL intelligent fire detection system. Siemens MXL is a custom engineered life safety system that maintains the highest degree of reliability and assures end users of high product performance.

The new main system board, the MMB-3, has a new processor that is eight (8) times faster than its predecessor. This upgrade significantly improves the speed and performance of existing systems and helps bring older systems into compliance with new NFPA and UL requirements.

The MMB-3 has two (2) Analog loop device circuits, which allow the use of unshielded, untwisted wires. Removable terminal blocks make installation, troubleshooting and system commissioning fast and easy.

The MMB-3 employs firmware in flash memory. Upgrade chips are not required to change the firmware. Once a code is added to a laptop computer, it can be downloaded directly into a powered panel. This saves time and money as a system may be up and running quickly.

The MMB-3 allows up to 50 loops (3000 points) and FirePrint detectors on an MXL system. Previously, older systems with more than 34 loops could not be updated to FirePrint. The MMB-3 allows this upgrade.

The new display, the MKB-5, is a large 6” VGA display. It is backlit and highly visible. This optional display shows eight system events simultaneously, giving vital information to users during emergencies. Users can scroll down the list of events and press a separate button to obtain more information on that event. The new display can be installed on any new or existing MXL system.
