Cerveny Kostelec, Czech Republic, October 23, 2006 - Pitrinec Software releases a new file searching tool for Windows2000, WindowsXP and Windows Vista called HandyFileSearch. The program is significantly faster and brings much more options than Windows built-in file searching utility. The program caches information (file name, file date, file size, etc.) about all files on hard drive(s) and thus returns search results almost immediately. Corporate users will appreciate the ability to quickly search also network drives.
After installation, the program automatically scans the hard drive(s) - and network drives - content and creates a cache file that is actually used for searching. The cache file is periodically updated so that also new files are taken into account on search requests. The program allows searching by file names supporting wild cards (* and ?), partial names, full file path or file names only, regular expressions, etc. In addition to ability to search by usual file attributes (file date, file size, etc.) it is also possible to use also ID3 tags (for MP3 files) and EXIF info (JPG files) for searching! This makes searching among thousands of music files and digital photos easy. Another nice feature is searching within ZIP archives. Files that are archived within a ZIP archive can be found in a second.
The user interface is very easy to follow and provides many features that makes the program pleasure to work with: Full drag & drop support, thumbnails, file preview (JPG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, HTML, XML, PDF, TXT, INI and all textual files and more), user defined hot keys and more.
A nice feature is an ability to create persistent filters. The user can create an unlimited number of predefined filters that can be quickly used to search in a specific class of files. The user can create filters to quickly find an installed program, digital photo, music file, a work document, etc.
The HandyFileSearch runs under Windows 2000, WindowsXP or Vista and requires 5MB of hard disk space. The program can be downloaded from the Pitrinec Software web site www.pitrinec.com.
