CeramOptec Introduces Drop-In Replacement Fiber for Ocean Optics Benchtop Spectrometers

January 7, 2008, East Longmeadow, MA. CeramOptec, innovative supplier of highest quality silica/silica, plastic-clad silica and hard-polymer-clad silica optical fibers, is now offering drop-in replacement fiber bundles and assemblies for the Ocean Optics family of benchtop spectrometers. Following in CeramOptec's tradition of excellence, the company exercises full control over every step of the fiber's manufacturing and assembly process to ensure consistent quality and performance of the replacement products.

Consistent High Quality

"Unlike other suppliers of fiber for scientific instrumentation, including Ocean Optics," said Brian Foley, Vice President of Engineering & Manufacturing, "CeramOptec does not purchase stock fiber preform from third parties from which to fabricate its fiber". Instead, the company handles all steps of the manufacturing process, including preform design and fabrication, fiber drawing and assembly, and testing of the finished product. This in-house design and manufacturing gives CO a unique level of control over the finished bundle's optical and mechanical characteristics. With full control the company can optimize the bundle for increased numerical aperture (light-gathering) and transmission characteristics, especially in the composition-sensitive UV and NIR wavelengths.

By controlling every aspect of the fiber bundle's manufacture, CO provides customers with more consistent quality than competitive offerings. This full control also means that customers have a single point of contact for technical support. "By starting with stock preforms", said Foley, "other bundle fabricators put the performance of their fiber bundles in the hands of a supplier who may be targeting other applications with their preform chemistry."

Stock or Customization

The replacement bundles can be readily ordered by referring to the Ocean Optics (OO) part number to obtain a drop-in replacement. Because CO has full control over preform design, however, customers also have the option of requesting enhancements to the bundle, such as increased NA or altered spectral transmission characteristics. Either way, CO's full in-house manufacturing capability assures customers of consistent performance from bundle to bundle.

To order OO replacement fiber bundles contact a CeramOptec sales engineer Toll Free at (800) 321-0790 or visit the company website at www.ceramoptec.com.
