WSF Industries Develops 15-ft. Diameter Rapidoor® Fast-Opening Closure for Specialized Pressure Vessel

(March 2006) - A Rapidoor® measuring more than 15-feet in diameter was designed and manufactured by WSF Industries, Inc., Buffalo, New York, to provide a fast-opening closure for pressure vessels used by a Canadian manufacturer vulcanizing rubber. The extra-large diameter accommodates heavy-duty tires up to nearly 15-ft. diameter used on off-highway and earth moving and mining equipment.

The new Rapidoor closure has an inner diameter of 182" (15-ft., 2") with a 36" (3-ft.) straight skirt to fit on a 10-ft. long rubber vulcanizer. Operating on a horizontal side swing, left-hand hinge, the new Rapidoor weighs approximately 33,000 lbs., but will open or close in less than 30 seconds. A wedge-lock, breach action closure, Rapidoor features a locking ring that provides an immediate, positive seal when rotating into the locking position, WSF states.

The tire manufacturer operates the vessel at an internal pressure of 110 psig at 350°F maximum/20°F minimum temperatures. The Rapidoor closure was fabricated in accordance with ASME Code Section VII Division 1, and other codes registered with the Province of Ontario.
