Fanless, Multi-Functional Embedded Systems

Date: 7/21/2008

Advantech, a leading IPC service provider, delivers visionary and trustworthy industrial computing solutions that empower businesses.

The company is happy to announce the mid-August release of a new series of fanless, compact embedded computer systems. The ARK-3380 B1 series brings a new SATA capacity, and additional I/O interfaces, including a 9-pin DIO, and increases possible USB 2.0 interfaces up to three. The ARK-3380 series is powered by either an Intel® Pentium® M or Celeron® M processor, offering excellent performance and reliability, and compatibility with a variety of MIO boards.

Painless Transfer from ARK-3380 A2 to B1

From versions A2 to B1 the front panel adds one 9-pin GPIO connector and an increase to three USB 2.0 connectors (for series B1 models ARK-3380/81/82/89). Since there have been no circuitry changes between the ARK-3380 A2 series and the B1 series, all existing MIO boards retain compatibility.

Ruggedized Systems Take Punishment, Beg for More

The B1 version can tolerate a temperature range between -20° C and 60° C (with Industrial Compact Flash) and 0° ~ 45°C (with HDD). Operating humidity can be up to 95% at 45° C.

B1 systems can withstand 5Grms vibration (with Compact Flash), and 50G shock (with Compact Flash).

Comprehensive I/O for Multiple Applications

The ARK-3380 B1 series offers a choice of display interfaces with VGA output, DVI and LVDS output, plus line-in/line-out/mic-in audio jacks. The B1 series also includes a 9-pin digital I/O connector, capable of GPIO programming. Advantech also offers SUSI (Secure and Unified Smart Interface), a powerful I/O control utility which speeds development while enhancing security. SUSI makes assigning functions to ports easy.

One example: Kiosk Kicker

ARK-3383 B1 makes an ideal controller for an interactivekiosk solutions. The seven serial ports can be connected to card readers, touch screen panels, and video cameras. LVDS is the primary transmission protocol in the industry, and supports most flat display panels. An external sensor connected to the GPIO digital input port can signal when a user is standing in front of the kiosk, automatically starting multimedia program play.

The serial-port-connected card reader reads card numbers and stores transaction data on the hard drive via Serial ATA interface. The ethernet connection takes care of LAN or Internet connectivity, while the USB camera provides video streaming and records the whole transaction process, protecting both KIOSK and user. The low voltage system design and low voltage processor enhance energy management efficiency.

Put Them to Work

The ARK-3380 series family includes ARK-3380, ARK-3381, ARK-3382, ARK-3383, ARK-3384, and ARK-3389. Each model is geared to optimize certain applications or scenarios in multimedia, network gateway, kiosk, factory automation or machine automation. Advantech provides minor customization for MIO boards, and also makes the ARK-3380 B1 series available in non-branded, OEM models.

To make life easy for customers, Advantech has four hub service centers worldwide, where they provide peripheral assembly service and RMA service.
