Kennametal Introduces Lower-Cost, Easy-to-Use KSOM Clampless Cutters for High Metal Removal Rates

(LATROBE, PA) - Kennametal's new KSOM Clampless Cutters are the lower-cost solution for face milling almost every material in practically every industry.

These 45-degree lead face mills are specifically engineered to be easy to use with a single-screw clamping system, provide longer life, and deliver high metal-removal rates and improved surface finishes in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, and high-temp alloys.

The new cutters are offered in four different geometries and six specific grades for use in most applications. They feature a steel body with eight tungsten carbide cutting edges, and are available in medium and fine-pitch styles.

The Clampless Cutters are ideally suited for rough-milling applications requiring lower cutting speeds and increased metal removal rates in the general engineering, automotive and machine tool industries. Roughing and semi-finishing can be accomplished with the same tool.

"We have different grades and different geometries for practically every material," says Nick Gaten, Kennametal's Manager of Global Milling. "It's very free machining and quite robust."

The cutters are available in diameters from 1.25 inches to six inches, have up to 0.197 inch depth-of-cut capability, through-coolant capability, and can be used in all common milling applications, including face milling, ramping, helical ramping from solid, slotting, and plunging.

They also are available with two insert sizes for increased feed applications and varying depths of cut. The 6-mm version offers a 0.138-inch cut and the 7-mm version provides a 0.197-inch cut.

Kennametal Inc. is a world leader in the development, manufacture, application, and supply of high-quality metalcutting tools and services.
