December 6, 2007 - Requiring 10.5 mA to operate, programmable Model TFZ allows up to 32 field devices (126 with repeaters) to be networked onto one FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 segment. It has 20-bit input resolution, RFI/EMI protection, ambient temperature compensation, and operates in -40 to +85°C temperatures. Rated NEMA 4X/IP66, TFZ can be set from control room over segment wiring to handle 14 RTD types, 9 thermocouple types, as well as direct mV and resistance/potentiometer inputs.

Moore Industries Introduces TFZ Programmable FOUNDATION Fieldbus Temperature Transmitter

The TFZ saves wire and installation costs by allowing up to 126 devices to be networked onto one, low cost FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 segment.

NORTH HILLS, CA- The TFZ Programmable FOUNDATION Fieldbus Temperature Transmitter can be installed on the same segment with all standard FOUNDATION fieldbus devices. The TFZ converts a temperature sensor input to a FOUNDATION fieldbus H1, two-way digital communication protocol that is ready for interface to a DCS, computer-based SCADA system, or asset management software.

The TFZ saves wire and installation costs by allowing up to 32 field devices (126 with repeaters) to be networked onto one, low cost FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 segment. It requires only 10.5mA for normal operation.

The bus-powered, two-wire TFZ offers dozens of input and operation choices. It sets up from the control room over segment wiring, using a standard FOUNDATION fieldbus configuration tool, to handle 14 RTD types, nine thermocouple types, as well as direct millivolt and resistance/potentiometer inputs.

The TFZ is Factory Mutual approved for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D and Class II & III, Division 1, Groups E, F, G hazardous areas. It also has NEMA 4X and IP66 ratings, approvals from ATEX, cFMus (US/Canada), IECEx, CSA, cCSAus, CENELEC/ATEX 94/9/EC and ANZEx, and is CE Conformant. The TFZ operates in ambient temperature ranges of -40 to +85°C (-40 to +185°F).

Diagnostics and Performance

TFZ transmitters perform continuous sensor diagnostics. This patented Moore Industries feature saves costly lost production time and hours of troubleshooting. If the sensor breaks or otherwise stops sending a signal during operation, the transmitter instantly displays the type and location of the error on its display.

The TFZ has 20-bit input resolution, RFI/EMI protection, ambient temperature compensation, works up to five years between scheduled calibrations, and-depending on the sensor chosen-has an input accuracy up to ±0.1°C. An advanced linearization method minimizes conformance error, while Reference (Cold) Junction Compensation techniques produce stable readings even in fluctuating ambient temperature conditions.

For non-linear inputs, custom linearization curves can be programmed using the fieldbus configuration tool. The TFZ can be trimmed with two data points within the selected zero and span measurement range. This allows a complete process range to be monitored, while placing measurement emphasis on a specific segment of the range most critical to the process.

Function Block Programming

The TFZ can be remotely programmed or interrogated over the segment using a standard FOUNDATION fieldbus configuration tool. Function blocks include:

oResource Function Block (RB)-Contains diagnostic information, hardware and electronics information (memory, manufacturer identification, device type, software tag) and display configuration parameters.

oTemperature Transducer Block (TB)-Contains temperature measurement data, including sensor and terminal temperature. It also includes information about the sensor type, engineering units, linearization, re-ranging, damping, temperature compensation and diagnostics.

oAnalog Input Block (AI)-Processes measurements from a sensor and makes them available to other function blocks. The output value from the AI block is displayed in engineering units and contains a status indicating the quality of the measurement.
