Collexis Launches Community Feature for Academic Customers

- Connecting Experts From Over 16 Institutions Through Expert Profiling

Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced that Collexis, an Elsevier business and leading developer of semantic technology and knowledge discovery software, has launched its community module for their Expert Profiling application. The release of version 3.6 Expert Profiling connects experts across the Collexis community from multiple institutions by research concepts.

"We are very excited about latest release of Expert Profiling as this not only helps researchers connect across disciplines but also across member institutions," noted Jay Katzen, Managing Director, Elsevier Science and Technology. "This transparency across institutions can lead to new collaborations that will enhance the research process and the quest for new cures to the most challenging diseases."

"Over the past few years, the NIH has focused on increasing networking and collaboration through CTSA awards and the VIVO initiative. The Collexis Expert Profiling community module also supports these goals as well as provide interoperability between VIVO and the Collexis application," stated Christian Herzog, MD, Managing Director Collexis. "Prior to the acquisition by Elsevier the Collexis profiles were based on PubMed data, now the profiles will be powered by the 18,000 peer review journals within Scopus which will not only strengthen the life science profiles but allow us to provide expert profiles in all scientific disciplines!"

The Collexis Expert Profiling community module allows for the identification of not only an institution's research experts based on their historical publications but research experts from other institutions who subscribe to the Collexis Expert Profiling application. Additional features within the Collexis Expert Profiling application include the capability of finding similar experts, searching by key concept and provide the "Scientific Context"; that will display related experts, grants and publications based on the Fingerprint of an individual grant or publication.

The following institutions comprise the current Collexis community; Albert Einstein College of Medicine ( http://researchprofiles.collexis.com/einstein/), Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, Medical College of Georgia, University of Miami, University of Michigan Medical School, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Oregon Health & Science University, University of California, Davis, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and Wayne State University.

About Collexis - An Elsevier Business

Collexis, a leading developer of semantic technology and knowledge discovery software based in New York, NY (USA) with operations in Cologne, Germany and Valparaiso, Chile. Collexis now offers the world's first pre-populated scientific social network for life science researchers, http://www.biomedexperts.com. Collexis' proprietary technology builds conceptual profiles of text, called Fingerprints, from documents, Websites, emails and other digitized content and matches them with a comprehensive list of pre-defined "fingerprinted" concepts to make research results more relevant and efficient. This matching of concepts eliminates the ambiguity and lack of priority associated with word searches. The results are often described as "finding needles in many haystacks." Through this novel approach, Collexis can build unique applications to search, index and aggregate information as well as prioritize, trend and predict data based on sources in multiple industries without the limitations of language or dialect. Collexis' current clients in the public, private and academic sectors include Johns Hopkins University; University of Michigan, tDavis ; Albert Einstein College of Medicine, University of Michigan Medical School, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Oregon Health & Science University, Lockheed Martin; the World Health Organization; Wellcome Trust; the National Institutes of Health; and the U.S. Department of Defense.
