One Stop Systems' 1U Expansion Platform Delivers High Performance Bandwidth for the Accelerator Market

ESCONDIDO, Calif., April 6, 2009 - One Stop Systems (OSS), a leading provider of PCI Express (PCIe) modules and systems, announces the introduction of its 1U PCIe expansion platform, designed specifically for the emerging computational accelerator market. The expansion platform supports either two double-slot graphical processing units (GPU's) or four single-slot GPU's. An internal system monitor surveys system parameters and reports status through an Ethernet port on the rear of the enclosure. The PCI Express interface delivers data transfers up to 80Gb/s to the host system through a host adapter that installs in the host computer's PCIe x16 expansion slot. A 1-meter standardized PCIe x16 cable is included with the platform. While it can be installed within up to 10 meters of its host system using the standard PCIe cable, greater distances from the host system can be accommodated using fiber optic solutions provided by OSS. Accelerator expansion systems are typically used in data centers, video imaging systems, and simulation applications.

The PCIe cable allows the expansion accelerator to appear as a contiguous system with the host. Flexible to accommodate a number of configurations and scalable to be stacked in a rack, allowing multiple PCIe interfaces."
The OSS Expansion Platform Family
In addition to 1U expansion platform, OSS is producing 2U, 3U, and 4U versions, available later this year. The 2U version (OSS-PCIe-2U-ENCL-EXP-ACC) will be available later this year and will support four double-wide cards or eight single-wide accelerators. The 3U version (OSS-PCIe-3U-ENCL-EXP-ACC) will accommodate up to six double-wide GPU's or twelve single-wide cards. The 4U version (OSS-PCIe-4U-ENCL-EXP-ACC) will support up to eight double-wide or sixteen single-wide GPU's in a single rackmount enclosure. Prices are currently being quoted for all versions.
Fiber Optic Solutions
An active fiber optic cable can be used with the PCIe platform to extend the PCIe bus to greater distances. These cables will be available through OSS and other vendors later this year. OSS also produces fiber optic (FO) versions of the expansion platforms. The FO versions contain the optical transceivers internally. A standard fiber optic cable is attached to the rear of the enclosure in the same manner as in the PCIe version.
