New Cost-Effective Organic Deposition Source Gives Manufacturers and Researchers More Control

Provides cost-effective option for development of OLED and solar cells

WILMINGTON, USA (4 August 2006)-BOC Edwards has launched a new temperature-controlled evaporation source for depositing the sensitive materials used in the research and production of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) and solar cells. The source gives electronics manufacturers and industrial researchers accurate control of the temperature profile, and therefore greater control of the deposition rate, reducing wastage of material, and associated costs.

OLEDs are a key component of next-generation display technology as they allow for lower power consumption with brighter output and improved viewing angles. The current push for sustainable energy is leading the development of organic solar cells and the BOC Edwards sources offer manufacturers and researchers a range of cost-effective options for the development of these devices.

Available in two sizes, with 2cc or 4cc charge capacity, the source body contains a heating element, a temperature sensor and an interchangeable crucible. Operation is by either a single-channel or four-channel source controller, which uses temperature ramps and self-tuning control loops to allow users to accurately and easily define the source temperature profile. The controllers operate the sources between 50° and 600°C with an accuracy of ± 0.1°C.

The sources, controllers and mounting hardware are available as packages which can be specified for new or existing BOC Edwards deposition systems. A comprehensive range of crucible options is available to complement the sources.
