November 17, 2006 - CopperNode(TM) and CopperNodeHE(TM) deliver Ethernet services over copper based PDH infrastructure that serves over 90% of enterprise locations and cellular base station sites. Virtual Concatenation based bonding of DS1/E1 along with GFP encapsulation provides solution for delivering Ethernet services in 5-25 Mbps range demanded by small and mid-sized enterprises, and by HSDPA and 1xEV-DO based cellular base stations. IC solutions include device management software, documentation, and support.

Galazar Extends Ethernet Access Solutions with CopperNode and CopperNodeHE

Galazar Extends Ethernet Access Solutions with CopperNode and CopperNodeHE
Enterprise and HSDPA/1xEV-DO cellular requirements drive Carrier Ethernet over copper plant

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - OTTAWA, Canada - October 30, 2006 - Galazar Networks® Inc., announced the further expansion of its comprehensive portfolio of carrier Ethernet transport solutions with the introduction of its CopperNode(TM) and CopperNodeHE(TM) product. This highly integrated solution family is targeted at delivering Ethernet services over the widely deployed and reliable, copper based PDH infrastructure that serves over 90% of enterprise locations and cellular base station sites.

In order to support advanced, packet based mobile applications, cellular equipment at both the base station and the network controller are being evolved to an IP based architecture with Ethernet interfaces. Consequently, the Radio Access Network that connects the base stations to the controllers must be evolved to support Ethernet transport. At the same time, carriers want to serve the small to medium enterprises that represent over 80% of their customer base without costly deployment of new fibre.

Together, these trends are driving fixed and mobile service providers to seek Ethernet transport solutions that can be reliably delivered over the dominant DS1/E1 PDH based copper access infrastructure. These solutions must provide the same reliability and robustness that has been expected of Time Domain Multiplexed (TDM) traffic over the PDH network, combined with bandwidth efficiency and flexibility. ITU standardised technologies such as Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) and Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) with Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) have delivered these benefits to SONET/SDH and, with these new devices, have been extended to do the same for PDH. Virtual Concatenation based bonding of DS1/E1 along with efficient GFP encapsulation provide an ideal solution for delivering Ethernet services in the 5Mbps to 25Mbps range demanded by small and mid-sized enterprises, and by HSDPA and 1xEV-DO based cellular base stations.

The CopperNode and CopperNodeHE Ethernet over PDH products join Galazar's existing broad portfolio of Ethernet over SONET/SDH solutions such as MSF250TM, VersaNode(TM), CompactNode(TM) and RadioNode(TM) and enjoys the same look and feel for both hardware and software interfaces. All Galazar IC solutions are packaged with comprehensive device management software, documentation and support which has enabled remarkable acceleration of design and integration to greatly reduce time-to-market in the development of industry leading media conversion, MicroMSPP and MSPP solutions available today. This application focused approach allows system integrators to rapidly develop a range of platforms based on reusable Galazar IC and software technology.

Availability
CopperNode and CopperNodeHE hardware and software design tools will be available in Q4 of 2006. CopperNode, CopperNodeHE and associated software packages will be available in Q1 of 2007.
