Exalead Announces Availability of Exalead One:Enterprise 4.5
New User Interface Offers Greater Choice, Simplicity and Ease-of-Use for Less Frustrating, More Satisfying Enterprise Search Experience
NEW YORK, Jan. 31 -- Exalead(R), a global provider of search software for business and the Web, today announced the general availability of the newest version of its award-winning enterprise search software, exalead one:enterprise(TM), designed to provide users with a unified access point to content and data -- both structured and unstructured -- regardless of format or location.
exalead one:enterprise 4.5 offers a new, simpler user interface with greater search refinement options, improved performance for both 64-bit and 32-bit system environments, expanded language and file format support as well as new management tools for administrators.

Choose Your Own User Interface
With this release of exalead one:enterprise, customers will have the opportunity to select from three user interfaces (UI) to meet the needs of employees. These include:
o The UI available in exalead one:enterprise 4.0;
o The new, streamlined UI found on Exalead's Web search engine (www.exalead.com ) for business-related searches inside the firewall. This UI is the result of extensive research involving usability studies conducted around the globe as well as graphical design analysis; and,
o A white label version for organizations hoping to customize the look and feel from top to bottom.
The ability to select the best UI based on your organization's needs is key to rapid user adoption and will directly impact return on investment (ROI).
Simpler UI, Advanced Features
The design of the UI found in the Exalead Web search engine is more streamlined than prior versions, but continues to provide Exalead's patented Search by Serendipity(R) navigation technology and advanced features like phonetic, fuzzy matching, approximate search, word-stemming, thumbnail image previews, search term highlighting and spelling correction.
As with all of its products, exalead one:enterprise automatically returns a list of related terms and categories for each search query that are extracted from the indexed data. This allows users to broaden or narrow a search, for example, by a document's author, location or format. For a more personalized experience, users can choose to expand or condense the list of options for refining a search, or how the results are pre-viewed and displayed.
"With the amount of information that is thrown daily at the average information worker, plain search is not enough," said Sue Feldman, IDC's VP for Content Technologies. "Most people have trouble figuring out how to phrase a question about something that is not familiar, and then how to sort through too much information that is returned in an average search. Users need better interfaces, better clues about how to interact with a search platform. While Web search boxes are familiar, the results that they bring back don't satisfy the user's information need 30-50 percent of the time. Exalead injects more visual elements into the interface, as well as more clues to improve the interaction, making it easier for users to locate what they need from multiple sources of information-both data and content."
Improved Performance, Expanded Support
All of Exalead's products are optimized for 64-bit systems. However, the 4.5 release of exalead one:enterprise offers performance improvements for 32-bit systems to ensure that response time is consistent for all users, in any technology environment -- no matter how many users are accessing the software at a given time. Along with compatibility for most major operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Solaris and UNIX(R), exalead one:enterprise 4.5 adds support for IBM AIX versions 5.2 and higher to ensure quick installation and deployment.
In addition, exalead one:enterprise 4.5 offers expanded language support for Dutch. The company's proprietary, native support covers more than 54 languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Hebrew, Japanese and other major Asian languages. Exalead's linguistics technologies are integrated at the core of the index for optimal performance and better search results.
exalead one:enterprise now supports more than 320 file formats, including native support for Microsoft Office 2007. In addition to indexing these file formats, users can now preview the contents of almost any document, no matter what format it is saved in, eliminating the need for a given application to be natively installed on a system. The new version of exalead one:enterprise also offers an updated connector for Microsoft Exchange.
Easy Customization, Effective Reporting Tools
Organizations can more easily customize the user interface of exalead one:enterprise 4.5 through the availability of new CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) templates, a simple way to enhance the layout of Web documents (e.g. fonts, colors, spacing). This allows organizations to preserve their brand and to customize their search engines based on employees' search habits and needs. The new CSS templates are essential for organizations that chose to leverage the white label UI with exalead one:enterprise 4.5, which is essentially a blank slate in terms of design.
There are also new exalead one:search APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) available so that administrators can easily add custom capabilities using the XSL (eXtensible Style Language) open standard. New reporting tools are also available to allow system administrators to learn about users' search patterns to optimize performance and relevancy of results. A default set of reports and charts are available and administrators can also use the reporting tools to define the reports or charts they need.
