Lubrizol's New CJ-4 Technology Provides Performance, Protection and Simplicity

CLEVELAND, OH, July 13, 2006 - You'd have to drive to the moon and back about 2000 times-more than one billion miles-to equal the number of miles Lubrizol has logged in field testing its heavy-duty diesel oil technology.

Lubrizol's new CJ-4 premium performing technology, Lubrizol® 40007, is no exception. "To put our new CJ-4 technology through its paces, we logged more than 12 million miles of field testing, in both 2006 and older equipment. If that's not proven performance, I don't know what is," stated Dale Carroll, Lubrizol's Heavy Duty Diesel Product Manager.

Anticipating the need to have both CI-4 and CJ-4 products in the market for a period of time, Lubrizol has created a CJ-4 offering that provides our customers the option to use either a stand-alone CJ-4 dispersant inhibitor package, Lubrizol 40007, or a CJ-4 booster, Lubrizol 48007, which can be used in conjunction with current CI-4 additive technology and our traditional Lubrizol olefin copolymer viscosity modifier.

This offering was designed to maximize flexibility and give Lubrizol customers the product they need without the logistics burden. "Our focus was operational simplicity when developing this offering. Premium performance is a must. But in addition, customers require logistics flexibility during this market transition, and they can appreciate our building block approach for CJ-4 and the flexibility it provides," said Matthew Joyce, North American Business Manager, Heavy Duty Diesel.

Lubrizol 40007 is formulated to meet the latest OEM specifications and is backward compatible to all API categories, allowing it to be used in 2007 and older diesel engines. Compared to CI-4 or CI-4 PLUS oils, Lubrizol 40007 additive technology provides enhanced viscosity control, improved valve train wear protection, shear stability performance, piston deposit control, and better soot control.

"As the heavy-duty additive market leader in North America, Lubrizol has made a significant investment in both time and resources for this category upgrade, and we are pleased with how it has worked out. Lubrizol 40007 is a proven technology that we believe will provide our customers the opportunity to deliver a premium product to the market," said Joyce.
