New Square D® Powerpact® H- And J-Frame Enclosures Provide Increased Flexibility For Installation Of Breakers, Accessories

PALATINE, Ill. - February 2, 2006 - The first enclosures designed specifically for Square D® H- and J-frame PowerPact® molded case circuit breakers provide increased flexibility for commercial and industrial applications. By allowing for easy installation of both the breakers and their internally mounted accessories and lug provisions, the enclosures give contractors and facility managers more options for 15A to 250A applications where a branch circuit disconnect with circuit protection is required. Indoor, outdoor, flush- and surface-mounting models provide further flexibility.

"The major advantage of these enclosures is the ability to customize the installation," said George Fitzsimmons, Square D Staff Product Specialist. "The product system functions to give the customer the ability to quickly field-install the circuit breaker and related accessories. This is particularly important today because features like custom cable terminations, shunt, alarm, auxiliary switch and undervoltage trip modules are crucial to many applications."

Among the five new enclosures are a NEMA Type 12-rated gasketed, dust-tight version and a stainless steel NEMA Type 4 water- and Type 4X corrosion-resistant model. Both enclosures prevent the ingress of contaminants from the surrounding environment and measure only 9.72 inches wide to facilitate installation in limited spaces. They also meet the standard requirements for NEMA Type 3R outdoor applications due to a condensation drain feature. Features of these enclosures also include a cover interlocked external operating handle and quick release cover latches that allow for timesaving toolless access to the breaker so it can be wired or inspected.

Three other enclosures are available for NEMA Type 1 flush- and surface-mounted indoor applications and NEMA Type 3R outdoor applications. The NEMA Type 3R enclosure is constructed of galvannealed steel and features a lockable security door to limit access to the circuit breaker handle.

All five enclosures are suitable for use as service entrance equipment, feature a neutral capacity of up to 200 percent and are listed for use in the United States and Canada, Fitzsimmons said.
