Ampro Introduces RuffSystem(TM) for Extremely Rugged Environments

Rugged LittleBoard(TM) 800 SBC is the key ingredient of truly rugged embedded computers

BOSTON, MA, September 18, 2007. -- Ampro Computers, Inc., a leading supplier of standards-based computer systems, single board computers (SBCs), and computer-on-modules (COMs), introduced today at the Embedded Systems Conference the new RuffSystem(TM) embedded computer based on the industry's most rugged EBX SBC. Because the LittleBoard(TM) 800 Pentium® M SBC is rugged by design, the resulting RuffSystem computer is truly rugged. This announcement means that system OEMs in military, transportation, avionics, and factory automation markets can speed their time-to-market by using a fully-integrated system up to 1.4 GHz.

"Ampro continues to extend its rugged leadership, this time at the system level," said Joanne Mumola Williams, president and CEO of Ampro. "Extreme rugged systems must contain extreme rugged boards, and such boards can only be created by design, not by a production screening and binning process."

RuffSystem provides conductive cooling for the 1.4 GHz Intel® Pentium® M 738 processor to the NEMA 4x chassis. The 8" x 10" x 3" enclosure is designed to meet MIL-STD-810 shock and vibration over wide temperature and humidity environments. Optional IP 66/67 mil-grade connectors are offered. The power supply is also rugged, with a surge protected vehicle-grade DC/DC converter designed for MIL-STD-704E, MIL-STD-1275B, and SAE J1455 compliance.

RuffSystem uses the new rugged EE25 series drives from Seagate. The system is expandable, with a PC/104-Plus interface for up to two I/O cards, and a DIMM socket for up to 1GByte of DDR 333 memory. Built-in I/O includes Gigabit Ethernet, 10/100 Ethernet, USB 2.0, serial ports, video, and audio. Ampro subjects extreme rugged SBCs like the LittleBoard 800 to voltage and temperature margin testing and HALT testing during development in order to fine-tune the design for harsh environments, including shock, vibration, humidity, and -40 to +85 degrees C operation.

RuffSystem is offered with Windows® XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, and Linux® 2.6 operating systems.

Pricing and Availability
Samples of the RuffSystem will be available in late Q4. Contact Ampro Computers for pricing.
