LECO Corporation Announces New Liquid Autosampler

St. Joseph, MI — LECO's TruSpec® Series of Elemental Determinators has received a major boost with the addition of the DI-PAL Liquid Autosampler.

The new autosampler is an optional accessory kit for the TruSpec. Its seamless automation for liquid analysis eliminates the need for costly sample containers previously used for liquid analyses on carousel autoloader systems. The DI-PAL Liquid Autosampler is only available with LECO's TruSpec series, and is recommended for most liquid applications with low viscosity like waters, beverages, slurries, urea, and light oils.

"We are excited about the convenience and ease-of-use that this autosampler provides," said Paul Pirozzola, LECO's Organic Product Manager. "We think those in the beverage and milk/dairy industries will be particularly interested in the amount of time the autosampler saves by eliminating the preparation and loading of individual samples."

The concept for the new autoloader was first identified when LECO began looking for a maintenance-free and cost-effective alternative for those analyzing liquid samples. Current autoloaders were outdated, difficult to operate, and did not reflect today's technology. In the new DI-PAL model, a 10 ml sample is placed first in a sealed vial and then a sample tray. A representative 0.25 ml is removed from the selected vial and injected through a septum located on the loading head of the instrument. Liquid standards are used for calibration, and a rinse tray is available for cleaning in between samples. Since no sample container is used, multiple liquid samples may be injected without changing the crucible. Rinsing, disposal, and injection are all done quickly within the four-minute analysis time of the unit.

The autosampler kit includes everything needed to mate to the TruSpec, in addition to the necessary software updates. Version 1.30 of the TruSpec software, an updated version that allows the instrument to adjust its "mindset" from solid to liquid, is necessary to operate the autosampler. Optional features, such as a needle heater, incubator/agitator, bar code reader, and additional trays for sample capacity, are also available at the time of purchase.

The autosampler kit can be retrofitted to fit current TruSpec instruments, however for new users, Pirozzola recommends purchasing the kit at the same time as the TruSpec.

"In order to save future installation and service costs, it is best if new users purchase them both at the same time," he said. "This will ensure customers get the most out of their instruments."

The strength in the new liquid autosampler is in the versatility of the TruSpec itself. The most robust instrument available for organic analysis, the TruSpec is available in a choice of Nitrogen (Protein), combined Carbon/Nitrogen, and simultaneous Carbon/Hydrogen/Nitrogen configurations. With the focus of TruSpec development on improving instrument performance and efficiency, this instrument was truly built with the customer's needs in mind. Easy-to-use Windows® -based software supports compliance to strict FDA regulations (21 CFR Part 11) for a closed analytical system and adds to the advantages offered by the instrument.
