New Starrett Electronic Calipers Resist Coolant, Shop Contaminants While Maintaining Accuracy

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, IMTS '04, Booth No. D-4327 (September 8, 2004) The L. S. Starrett Company has introduced the new 797 Electronic Caliper Series. In addition to the precision and reliability that is the hallmark of Starrett, 797 Calipers offer IP65 level protection which is ideal in harsh manufacturing environments. The 797 is the latest addition to Starrett's extensive line of electronic, dial and vernier slide calipers.

With IP65 Protection, 797 Calipers are resistant to coolant, water, dust, dirt and metal chips. According to IEC529, IP65 stands for a "6" protection against ingress of dust and particles and a "5" protection against water jets projected by a nozzle from any direction for a duration of three minutes.

797 Electronic Calipers have a range of user-friendly features including a large, easy-to-read LCD display with .310" high characters, zero at any position, instant inch/millimeter conversion, manual on/off with auto-off after 4 hours of non-use and a CR2032 battery with more than 3500 continuous hours of life.

797 Calipers include an RS232 output port for collecting and outputting data to devices such as Starrett 772 Series Advanced Data Collection Systems and Starrett 761 Series Data Multiplexers. Data can then be analyzed for statistical process control (SPC) purposes.

As with all Starrett tools, the 797 offers exceptional precision. They meet DIN862 Linear Accuracy and have a .0005" (0.01mm) resolution. A fine adjustment and slide lock further ensures precision measurements.

The 797 Electronic Calipers are made of hardened stainless steel and are available in a variety of size / measuring ranges:
o 0-6"/150mm, with outside jaw depth of 1-1/2" (38mm) and inside jaw depth of 5/8" (16mm)
