Powerful New Degausser Erases Hard Drives

WESTBORO, MA - A powerful new electromagnetic-pulse degausser from Security Engineered Machinery permanently erases data from computer hard drives, data tapes, and other magnetic media. Designated the Model EMP001 Eliminator Hard Drive and Magnetic Tape Degausser, it is on the U.S. National Security Agency's Evaluated Products List, complies with Department of Defense requirements for destroying classified information on magnetic media, and exceeds the requirements of many national and international legislative mandates (FACTA, HIPAA, GLB, DPA, etc.) for the destruction of confidential/sensitive data.

With effective field strength of up to 40,000 gauss, the EMP001 erases data from longitudinal magnetic recorded (LMR) and perpendicular magnetic recorded (PMR) hard disk drives with up to 3 terabytes of storage and nominal coercivity ratings of up to 5,000 Oersteds. It erases data tapes with nominal coercivity ratings of up to 2,800 Oersteds.

The EMP001 is easily operated on a tabletop. Hard drives or other magnetic media (up to 1" x 4" x 6") are inserted in a slot in the top of the compact (28" x 10" x 19.5") unit, the start button is pushed, and the fully degaussed items are ejected at the bottom of the chamber approximately 60 seconds later. Power requirements are 8 amps at 120 volts or 4 amps at 240 volts.
