Tightwire, Joint-Free Electrification System Provides Cost-Effective Reliable Power for Moving Equipment
TightWire, a compact mobile electrification system that features a joint-free, solid copper conductor, supplied in a roll, is available from U-S Safety Trolley Systems, a Division of Universal Electric Corp., Pittsburgh, Pa. TightWire, a one-piece insulator with three or four conductors provides a reliable and durable electrification method for overhead cranes, hoists and a variety of moving equipment, such as: hangar doors, work station cranes, transfer cars, automated storage and retrieval cranes, shuttles, conveyors, robots and amusement park rides, among others.
The TightWire system, available in rolls cut to each application's required length, eliminates the weak link in most conventional electrification systems. The copper conductor and PVC insulator is cut to length at the factory shipped to the customer on a reel and ready for installation.
Installation Time Savings Key
Installation of TightWire is quick and easy significantly reducing the time needed for conventional systems. Also, the TightWire design requires half the number of hangers and mounting brackets providing a significant cost savings on components and the time needed to install them. A dead-end assembly tensions the pre-assembled, one-piece PVC insulator with 3 or 4 conductors of the TightWire system. Tightening the dead-end springs will create a straight and strong electrification system.
The TightWire run snaps into mounting hangers every 10 feet to support the conductor. Power is supplied to the conductor through end feed lugs. The power collector is mounted to the moving equipment and has spring-loaded collector arms that guarantee positive contact along the conductors. TightWire is available in two sizes with either a 3 pole, 50 amp or 90 amp copper conductor or a 4 pole, 50 amp or 90 amp copper conductor. The conductor system is UL listed.
