Fike Introduces the Impulse(TM) Valve for Clean Agent Fire Suppression

Blue Springs, MO, - Fike® announces the release of a new valve technology that will become the standard on Fike clean agent fire suppression systems using DuPont(TM) FM-200® and FE-25(TM). The new Impulse valve is different than previous Fike valves in that it uses an electrically actuated mechanism instead of a gas cartridge actuator (GCA) to open a rupture disc, enabling the quick and efficient discharge of agent. The Impulse valve is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed and FM Global approved for use in fire suppression, with European approvals pending. The valve is patent pending in the US and internationally.

The Impulse valve will be available in two sizes, a 1-inch version for container sizes up to 100 lbs, and a 3-inch version for containers larger than 100 lbs. The valve is opened using a specially designed 24V Impulse Valve Operator (IVO), which can be activated electronically or manually. Up to six Impulse valves can be connected to a single output circuit of a Fike control panel using Fike's Impulse Releasing Modules (IRMs). One of the key features of the IVO is that it is easily resettable after testing or discharge, eliminating the need to purchase replacement actuators. Fike also offers an IVPO for pneumatic activation of Impulse valves.

"Impulse valve technology is a clear demonstration of Fike's approach to meeting customer needs for clean agent fire suppression" says Jim Morgan, Fike's Director of Marketing. "Fike systems have earned a reputation for reliability and quality, but customers wanted more flexibility in our valve. We listened - and we invested in developing a new technology that sets an even higher performance standard for the industry. Impulse technology provides many benefits that the market wants, and has been thoroughly tested for maximum reliability. On behalf of the numerous Fike engineers, industry experts, and manufacturing professionals who created this innovative new technology, we are proud to introduce the Impulse valve to the global market."

For customers requiring UL/FM approved systems, Fike is now accepting orders to include the Impulse valve. Fike's distributors have been notified of the transition plan from GCA to Impulse technology. Customers requiring European approved systems will be notified separately through Fike Protection Systems Ltd. in regards to product details and availability.
