Flexible Sortation with Variosort EXB120, the Electrical Crossbelt Sorter from Siemens

Siemens Mobility introduced its new Variosort EXB120 crossbelt sorter at the ProMat show in Chicago in January 2009. The new electrical crossbelt sorter makes it possible to individually control each belt conveyor on a carrier. Thanks to the Industrial Wireless LAN (I-WLAN) product from Siemens, communication between the stationary control system and the carriers requires no contact and takes place in real time. All active signals for controlling the crossbelt conveyor on the carrier are sent by these means as are the relevant data for the diagnostic system as well.

The linear induction drive system has been optimized for the new Variosort in order to increase efficiency and therewith minimize energy requirements. Designed for flexibility, the sorter can operate at speeds of up to 2.5 m/s and can be configured with inclines and declines and curves with diameters of 3.5 m and more. The carriers are equipped with crossbelts measuring 0.6 x 1.2 m (length, width) but their size can also be easily adapted to user-specific product dimensions.

The Variosort EXB120 electrical crossbelt sorter is capable of sorting goods measuring from 0.1 x 0.1 x 0.1 m to 1 x 0.6 x 0.6 m (length, width, height). The individual weight of the items to be sorted can be up to 35 kg for each carrier.

The sorter is characterized by a low number of components and its simple but rugged type of construction.
