Leading-Edge Technology for Digital Intermediates

NAB 2004, Booth SL 4713:
DVS presents CLIPSTER, a new HDStation and Centaurus

Offering significant gains in speed, flexibility and ease of operation, DVS presents its systems for capturing, editing and finishing in Las Vegas. The multi-resolution editing system CLIPSTER is enhanced with real-time primary color correction. The HDStation product line is re-placed by a new digital disk recorder (DDR) with a newly designed user interface running under the Windows® file system. OEM partners of DVS are offered a high-performance PCI-X video I/O board for uncompressed SD, HD and 2K.

At NAB 2004 the real-time workstation CLIPSTER celebrates its first anniversary. Exactly one year ago DVS launched its format-independent editing and finishing system for uncompressed SD to 2K. Since then CLIPSTER has positioned itself as a highly effective system for digital intermediates. In April it comes with a primary real-time color correction, enhancing its real-time capabilities. In addition DVS provided the workstation with an open plug-in interface to enable a flexible integration into different workflows. Using this interface HS-ART has developed film restoration tools for CLIPSTER. In addition, CLIPSTER supports compositing with Adobe® After Effects®, discreet® combustion® and eyeon Digital Fusion(TM). The powerful system will be demonstrated live at the DVS booth SL 4713.

DVS has restructured the well proven HDStationPlus and HDStationRGB. They will be replaced by a totally new DDR. It works under the Windows® file system instead of using a proprietary file format. Video and audio files can be saved, for example, as dpx, cineon, tga, bmp or aiff and are accessible immediately by any network client. This makes the new system ideal for use in a SAN environment: several disk recorders can access the high-resolution data stored on the central server - in real time.

A further important development is the replacement of the video I/O boards SDStationOEM and HDStationOEM with Centaurus. This new PCI-X board has been designed for handling uncompressed SD, HD and 2K video streams. It supports all popular formats, color spaces, frame rates and resolutions up to 2048 x 1556 pixels.
