Formaldehyde-Free Insulation from JM Easier to Handle

DENVER, Colo. May 30, 2002 -New MicroliteŽ Formaldehyde-Free Fiber Glass Duct Wrap Insulation from Johns Manville offers contractors a better handling product manufactured in a more environmentally responsible way.

These improvements are due to a revolutionary new acrylic-based binder, developed in partnership with leading specialty resin supplier Rohm and Haas. Unlike traditional phenol-formaldehyde binder, which becomes brittle where the glass fibers intersect, the new acrylic binder tends to remain more pliable. The result is a white duct wrap insulation that is easier to install for two reasons: first, it is more flexible and drapes more easily, making installation faster and more efficient. Second, the acrylic binder may reduce itching and irritation associated with conventional fiber glass duct wrap. Using the new binder also allows JM to eliminate formaldehyde emissions from the fiber glass wool manufacturing process without energy-intensive abatement systems.

"JM has reaffirmed its commitment to superior, innovative commercial insulation products and taken a significant step toward cleaner plant emissions by eliminating formaldehyde from our fiber glass wool binder," said Jeff Reinsma, JM market manager for air handling products. "Additionally, contractors using formaldehyde-free insulation are able to save time and money by working more efficiently."

Microlite duct wrap insulation is only the first of several air handling products from JM that will be switched over to a formaldehyde-free formulation. It offers the same thermal performance and durability as the traditional Microlite it replaces. For more information about this easier-to-use duct wrap, visit www.jm.com or call the JM Product Information Center at (800) 654-3013.
