Waters Automates Drinking Water Analysis; Unveils New AquaAnalysis System

Liquid Chromatography-Based (LC) System Cuts Analysis Time from Between Three-Five hours to Just 30 Minutes

MILFORD, Mass., Oct. 23 -- Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) today unveiled its new WatersŪ AquaAnalysis System, a total system solution designed to detect pesticides and other contaminants in drinking water and meet or exceed regulatory requirements worldwide. Laboratories stand to improve sample throughput times by up to 80 percent through cutting analysis time from between three to five hours to just 30 minutes.

"New drinking water regulations worldwide have increased the need for water testing," said Joe Romano, Senior Manager of Chemical Analysis at Waters Division of Waters Corporation, "The AquaAnalysis System has the ability to remove the labor-intensive activities related to drinking water sample preparation, while automating the analysis process. Most importantly, the new device meets regulatory limits required in all developed countries."

With new regulations in place, the number of samples needing analysis continues to increase while minimum residue level (MRL) detection limits continue to decrease. To meet sensitivity requirements, the AquaAnalysis System can detect target analytes at or below 10 parts-per-trillion (PPT), easily meeting or exceeding regulatory standards.

Additionally, the AquaAnalysis System employs a "parallel" analysis system, and prepares a second sample while the first is being analyzed, increasing lab productivity. Less capable systems operate "sequentially" requiring technicians to wait for each test to be completed before beginning the next. Also, the new AquaAnalysis System requires only 20mL volumes of sample compared to 1 liter, greatly reducing sample shipping and handling costs.

The AquaAnalysis System is being offered for sale worldwide.
