Kennametal Greenfield IPG Introduces Cleveland Twist Drill Q-Cobalt Wide Land Parabolic Drills in Screw Machine Length

Augusta, Ga. - July 22, 2002 - Kennametal Greenfield IPG will add screw machine length drills to its Cleveland Twist Drill Q-Cobalt wide land parabolic drill product line August 1, according to Peter Heenan, Kennametal Greenfield IPG drill products manager. "The existing Q-Cobalt product line included jobbers length drills for standard reach applications and taper length drills for long reach applications," said Heenan. "The addition of screw machine length drills provides Q-Cobalt users a comprehensive offering to handle the vast majority of their deep hole drilling challenges."

The new screw machine length line offers the same performance features as the existing Q-Cobalt line.

Q-Cobalt features include:

• Wide land parabolic flute shape;

• 135° notched point;

• and premium 8% cobalt construction.

The Q-Cobalt can be used in any deep hole drilling application where faster cycle times are critical. The Q-Cobalt drill attacks bottlenecks where reduced pecking and/or increased speeds and feeds are essential to meet part production quotas. The Q-Cobalt should be used as a problem solver, especially when drilling high tensile strength materials.

Q-Cobalt performance benefits include:

• Increased productivity via faster speed (SFM) and heavier feed (IPR) capability;

• Shorter cycles by reducing or eliminating peck feeding;

• Reduced drill inventory carrying costs because the Q-Cobalt can be used in a wide variety of applications, replacing several competitors' drill styles;

• Increased uptime by producing shorter, more manageable chips; and

• Lower manufacturing costs because the Q-Cobalt produces a greater and more consistent number of holes, reducing the number of times drills are changed, while improving hole quality.

The screw machine length offering is available in fractional, wire and letter sizes with a straw finish or with TiN, TiAlN or TiCN coating standard from stock.

Cleveland Twist Drill and Q-Cobalt are registered trademarks of Kennametal Inc. or wholly-owned business units of Kennametal Inc. in the U.S.A. and / or other countries.
