Distributed Peripheral Device features fail-safe relay.

Press Release Summary:

Simatic ET 200S Peripheral Device utilizes 24 V 8-channel digital input modules and 24 V 8-channel digital output modules. Electronic modules can be universally wired in advance with screw-type, spring-loaded, or fast-connect terminals, and can be hot-swapped without switching off voltage supply. Fail-safe module features relay output for switching capacity of 5 A at 24 Vdc and ac voltage up to 230 V. It can be triggered via any fail-safe outputs.

Distributed Peripheral Device With Fail Safe Relay Module

Distributed peripheral device with fail-safe relay module and input/output modules even more compact than before

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has added digital input/output modules and a fail-safe relay module to its distributed Simatic ET 200S peripheral device. The latter can therefore be installed much more compactly than before. This is especially advantageous in conveying applications and the manufacture of machine tools and production machines as well as in the automotive industry, including robot technology, and in the paper industry.

With the new 8DI DC 24 V (8-channel digital input) modules and the 8DO DC 24 V/0.5 A (8-channel digital output) modules, the Simatic ET 200S can be installed even more compactly than before. Typical uses where a large number of channels are needed and there is little space for installation are conveying applications and the manufacture of machine tools and production machines. The robust modules are suitable for ambient temperatures from 0 to 60 Grad Celsius and are highly resistant to vibrations up to five g (acceleration due to gravity). The electronic modules can be universally wired in advance with screw-type, springloaded or fast-connect terminals and can even be "hot-swapped" without switching off the voltage supply. The 8DI modules are suitable for connecting 2-wire sensors.

The new fail-safe relay module for the Simatic ET 200S features a relay output for a switching capacity of 5 amperes - at a DC voltage of 24 volts and an AC voltage of up to 230 volts. The relay module can be triggered via any fail-safe outputs. The internal fail-safe inputs can be used to read back the control information. The module is certified for safety-related applications up to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 62061 and is also in line with Category 4 according to EN 594-1.
