Avatron Software Adds HiDPI Support to Air Display on New iPad

Developer's Popular Lightweight App Leverages Hidden Mac OS X Feature, Giving Mac Users Access to New Tablet's 264-dpi Screen

PORTLAND, Ore., -- Avatron® Software today announced a new option for its acclaimed Air Display app that enables Mac users to access HiDPI, an until now hidden Mac OS X setting delivering 264-dpi resolution. Apple's new iPad is the first computer screen to take advantage of the HiDPI setting, which renders user interface elements at double resolution for unsurpassed detail and clarity.

Avatron's Air Display app transforms the third-generation into the highest available resolution computer monitor for Mac notebook and desktop users. While Mac enthusiasts expect Apple to eventually ship laptops and other computers with these high resolution screens, Air Display's use with the new iPad is currently the only way to experience HiDPI without installing special developer tools.

"HiDPI is stunning," said Dave Howell, Avatron's CEO. "In addition to increasing productivity by making text dramatically more readable, it's truly a game changer for such tasks as photo editing, architectural drafting and graphic design. With Air Display, we are pleased to offer Mac OS X users the first and currently only opportunity to experience the sharpest picture ever before available or seen on a computer monitor."

The Air Display app, which is also available for Mac OS X and Android, affords users more screen space and a larger workspace to spread out, wirelessly connecting laptops, notebooks and desktops to the tablet for optimal function and comfort. The lightweight app delivers high-performance mouse capabilities and continually balanced image quality and refresh speed. Combined with the new iPad's HiDPI feature, it delivers the industry's best viewing quality.

With Air Display, laptop, notebook and desktop computers running Mac OS X or Windows, automatically recognize a tablet as a secondary monitor, returning to single-screen mode when the app is closed. The app mirrors the main monitor and provides the option of using the touch screen--for such functions as a calculator, painting, games or demos--or a mouse.

The app is available in Apple's App Store, Google's Android Market and in Amazon's Appstore for $9.99.
