AVX Develops Smallest Available 6A SMT Single IDC Discrete Wire-to-Board Contact
AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has expanded its 9176 Series of reliable discrete wire-to-board connectors with the launch of the 9176-400 Series contact and cap. The smallest discrete surface mount IDC wire-to-board connector with a 6A rating available on the market, the 9176-400 Series connectors fit almost any application that requires a single wire to connect to a PCB. The new connector offers a smaller profile and lower cost alternative by providing a simple, reliable and low-cost SMT termination point for 22-24AWG wires, particularly beneficial for SSL and industrial applications. In addition, individual contacts can be located anywhere on the PCB enabling great design freedom.
Originally developed to meet harsh environment automotive and industrial market applications, the industry-proven IDC contact system has been tested to automotive levels of shock, vibration, and temperature cycling to prove their reliability and robustness. The new 9176-400 single, standalone component enables a wide range of devices to be connected to the PCB without soldering, simply by inserting a wire into the SMT contact with a small tool or optional retention / termination cap. While the IDC contact provides a gas-tight connection to the wire, the optional cap provides a positive strain relief in severe vibration applications. To facilitate repair, wires can be removed and replaced up to three times. A large SMT solder base provides maximum stability on the PCB.
"The 9176-400 single contact meets the cost and performance requirements for the repeatable wire termination of leaded devices and individual wires for harsh environment applications. In solid state lighting (SSL) applications specifically, these contacts are used to bring power and signal onto the PCB or to daisy chain multiple boards together in a long string. Supplied on tape & reel packaging for standard SMT processing, these new 9176-400 contacts reduce the total applied cost when compared with two-piece systems, and the simple IDC termination process provides higher reliability, greater repeatability and easier repair than solder terminations.
