March 12, 2002 - 500-micrometer broad-area emitter device is rated at 7 watts, CW. OEM single-stripe diode laser is mounted on 10.5 x 25 mm conduction-cooled package. Typical drive current and compliance voltage is less than 8 amperes and less than 2 volts, respectfully. Spectral width is less than 2.5 nm, FWHM, and beam divergence is less than 350 by 100, FWHM. Diode laser can act as pump source for neodymium-based (Nd:), diode-pumped, solid-state lasers.

Coherent Semiconductor Division Introduces Broad-Area, 7-Watt, High-Power Diode Laser at 808 nm

Santa Clara, Calif., February 6, 2002 - Coherent Inc, Semiconductor Division (CSD) (Nasdaq: COHR) has introduced a 500-micrometer broad-area emitter device rated at 7 watts, CW. Coherent's existing family of aluminum-free NIR (790 nm to 813 nm) OEM components, this new diode laser is ideal for integration into a host of direct-diode thermal, medical and industrial applications, as well as a pump source for neodymium-based (Nd:), diode-pumped, solid-state lasers.

The OEM single-stripe diode laser is mounted on an industry-standard (10.5 mm x 25 mm) conduction-cooled package. Typical drive current and compliance voltage for the 7-watt device is less than 8 amperes and less than 2 volts. Spectral width is typically less than 2.5 nm, FWHM. Beam divergence is less than 350 by 100, FWHM.

"Essentially, our product provides the highest CW optical power commercially available on the market from a 500-micron broad-area single-emitter device, mounted to a narrow, conductively cooled package," said Michael Atchley, product line manager for CSD. "This higher power rating will allow customers to upgrade their design performance without having to sacrifice size or reliability."
