nLight Introduces 100-Watt Diode Laser Array

VANCOUVER, Wash., December 8, 2004- nLight, a leading manufacturer of high-power semiconductor lasers, today announced the commercial release of its 100-watt Cascades (TM) diode laser array. The new Cascades product is a water-cooled, 1-cm array that provides 100 watts of continuous-wave (CW) output power in the 790- to 815-nm wavelength range. It is ideal for next generation diode-pumped solid-state lasers for commercial and defense applications.

"Growth in our industry has been driven by continuous improvements in power and 100 watts is a major milestone," said Merrill Apter, nLight's vice president of sales and marketing. "This significant increase in power, backed up by strong reliability data, will open up many new market opportunities."

The Cascades product line is based on nLight's proprietary laser structure that has demonstrated over 364 watts of continuous-wave (CW) power from a single 1-cm diode laser bar. These diode arrays have less than 1.5-microns smile and offer superior brightness when configured in either a vertical or horizontal architectures.

The 100-watt Cascades product line is an 80 percent fill-factor bar. The drive current and compliance voltage to achieve 100 watts at room temperature is 115 amperes at 1.85 volts. The spectral width is less than 3.0 nm, FWHM, and beam divergence is less than 36 degrees by less than 10 degrees, FWHM.

About nLight:

nLight is focused solely on producing the world's leading high-power semiconductor lasers. nLight produces the broadest range of diode lasers in the industry, with wavelengths ranging from 635- to 1600-nm, in its vertically integrated 60,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility. nLight products offer superior performance and enable industrial, defense, medical, and graphics applications.
