October 28, 2003 - Digital Zero Voltage Closing (ZVC) control mitigates transients associated with bringing capacitor banks online and eliminates damage and downtime resulting from voltage spikes. It automatically calibrates with Joslyn VBM switches and is continuously self-adjusting for temperature. Closing is synchronized with zero voltage in each phase, and 3 poles are closed independently. It works with Joslyn Varmaster VBM switching package for 15–69 kV applications.

Digital Zero Voltage Closing (ZVC) Control For Capacitor Switching

The new digital Zero Voltage Closing (ZVC) control is now available from Joslyn Hi-Voltage of Cleveland, Ohio.

The digital ZVC control can be used with the Joslyn Varmaster VBM switching package for 15kV to 69kV applications. The result is a reduction of system overvoltages and stress on capacitors caused by high inrush currents. The ZVC control mitigates transients associated with bringing capacitor banks online and eliminates costly customer equipment damage and downtime resulting from voltage spikes.

The ZVC control is easy to install. The control automatically calibrates with Joslyn VBM switches and is continuously self-adjusting for temperature throughout complete switch life. Closing is synchronized with zero voltage in each phase and the three poles are closed independently. The digital ZVC control can be interfaced with any manufacturer’s capacitor controller and can be easily retro-fitted into existing switches.
