Digital Video Recorder Stores up to 33 Hours of Inspection Footage

Columbia, NJ (February 26, 2003) - Record up to 6½ hours of inspection video at broadcast resolution, or more than 33 hours at full compression with the new DV Sidekick(TM) from iShot Imaging. This lightweight, palm-size recorder digitizes and compresses video, storing it as dense motion JPEG files. A full-featured keypad makes operation highly intuitive, while an integral RS232 port permits remote control and file management via any PC running optional interface software.

Compact and wearable, DV Sidekick(TM) is the ideal accessory for anyone who performs field inspections using video probes, camera crawlers, pole cameras and other video-based inspection equipment. And because of its time-lapse recording capabilities, DV Sidekick(TM) is also well-suited for event monitoring, covert surveillance anid other unattended tasks.

Employing hard-disk storage, DV Sidekick(TM) comes in 120, 100, 80, 60 and 40 GB models. Disk size and compression together determine recording capacity, and DV Sidekick(TM) offers selectable compression ranging from 4:1 (broadcast resolution) to 20:1 (near-VHS). The 120 GB model stores 6½ hours at broadcast resolution or 33½ hours at maximum compression; the 100 GB model, 5½ or 27¾ hours; the 80 GB model, 4½ or 22¼ hours; the 60 GB model, 3¼ or 16½ hours; and the 40 GB model, 2¼ or 11 hours. (Record times may vary based on frame complexity.)

DV Sidekick(TM) captures video at an industry-standard 30 frames per second (fps) rate, but can be user-configured for time lapse operation to answer long-term surveillance and monitoring applications. Frame rates of 15, 10, 6, 5, 3 and 2 fps are possible. On the 120 GB model, a 2 fps frame rate at full compression yields a recording capacity of 21 days.

DV Sidekick(TM) supports both NTSC and PAL formats, capturing frames at 720x486 and 720x576 pixels, respectively, for maximum resolution of 550 HTVL. Versions supporting composite video and S-Video input/output are available.

Designed for maximum portability, DV Sidekick(TM) measures just 4¾" x 4¼" x 2¼" and weighs 10 oz. It can be clipped to an operator's belt, worn on a neck strap, mounted to host equipment, or operated freestanding. Power, video and serial interface connections are made at the rear of the unit, ensuring unobstructed fingertip access to all keypad buttons. DV Sidekick(TM) runs off any 12 Vdc power source, including an optional Lithium Ion battery belt. It withstands environments ranging from -40 to +176°F and up to 90% RH.

Versatile controls make DV Sidekick(TM) the easy choice for almost any video recording application. An integral eight-button keypad grants fingertip access to a host of basic recorder functions and settings, including playback, pause, record, video loop through, clip/frame navigation, playback speed, compression and disk formatting. Keypad LEDs confirm playback, pause, record and loop-through status. For remote operation, an integral RS232 port permits control and file management via any PC running the available Windows-based interface software.
