Imaging Technology International Introduces Digital Production Printing Press

August 25, 2005 - Boulder, Colorado - imaging Technology international (iTi), a global designer and manufacturer of industrial ink jet systems, announces the Digital Web Press (DWP), a production system for high speed printing of digital data on flexible substrates such as label stock or Kapton®. The DWP delivers affordable, high volume digital production capabilities, enabling variable length runs of any given image, just-in-time production, and the ability to support changing images on the fly.

The Digital Web Press from iTi is a robust, narrow web ink jet production system designed for printing in applications that require short or variable production runs of non-repetitive patterns, or precise metering of expensive fluids such as conductive inks for applications including RFID tags. The innovative system utilizes a broad range of specialized, flexible substrates, suitable for use in color and monochromatic label printing, electrical and biomedical production applications.

The DWP features sturdy, anodized aluminum and stainless steel construction. The substrate-handling system minimizes web weave and speed variations to maximize image quality while running at speeds of up to 150 feet per minute. The DWP features 8 to 24 print heads, print widths from two to six inches, and maintains crisp image quality while sustaining high production speeds. It is designed for rigorous 24/7 production schedules with minimal operator intervention. To make ink selection highly flexible, the DWP incorporates optional ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR) or hot-air ink curing systems. This specialized production system is controlled by one operator via a customizable color touch-screen application interface.

The innovative DWP makes short production runs economical by eliminating high setup costs and long lead times associated with traditional analog web presses. Digital control provides users the ability to quickly generate images for printing, and enables high speed printing of small batch runs. "The holy grail for iTi is to enable customers to achieve economies of scale at unit one," says iTi's CEO R. Bruce Morgan. "If our customers have 10,000 unique labels to run, they can print them at the same speed as if they had 10,000 of the same. The DWP marks another important milestone in iTi's mission to provide the systems and tools that enable the digital manufacturing revolution."

iTi's Digital Web Press will debut at Booth #145 at Specialty Graphic Imaging Association's (SGIA) Specialty Printing and Imaging Technology Show, New Orleans, LA, September 28 - October 1, 2005. The first customer shipment of the DWP is scheduled for August, 2005.
