New Quick-Check Meter Measures Cable Tension in Seconds with Digital Accuracy

Simple handheld device attaches quickly; measures tension in guy lines, overhead wires, and elevator cables.

Fairmont, MN-November 1, 2005 - Dillon, Inc. has introduced the Quick-Check Tension Meter, a time-saving handheld device that quickly attaches and measures the tension of guy wires, overhead wires, elevator cables, and more in seconds. The lever-operated meter features the digital accuracy of an integrated Dillon loadcell with LCD display that instantly and accurately calculates cable tension, without the need for the manual calculations, lookup tables and conversion charts associated with inaccurate impact testing methods.

"An operator can attach, measure and remove Quick-Check literally in five seconds," said Jim Head, BSME, Dillon. "There's never been an easier or more accurate way to check cable tension, which will save time, promote more frequent testing, and provide greater assurance".

Applications for the versatile, patent-pending Quick-Check Meter include tower and stack guy wires, pre-tensioned cable barriers, bridges, elevators, winch rope, pre-stressed concrete, fall arrest systems, aircraft cables and utilities. Sheaves accommodate rated wire sizes of 3/16" to ¾", Quick-Check features two tension capacities up to 8000 lb/35 kN/3500 kg and larger sizes are in development.

Other features include an extended lever for easy attachment on cables, sheaves with bearings to eliminate friction and provide accurate tests, an integral Dillon digital loadcell with easy-to-use soft-key interface, highly-visible LCD display with large 1" digits, on-board storage of up to 15 calibrations, automatic averaging of readings, built-in temperature sensor with patented automatic tension adjustment, and rugged weatherproof construction for years of outdoor service. Weighing only 11 lbs., Quick-Check is compact and easy to operate. The device runs on two conventional AA batteries with long life between charges/replacement.
