SUMMARY: GHS labels are used as a communication system for identifying hazardous material.
Chemicals and other hazardous substances are used daily for manufacturing purposes or for general cleaning of machinery or facilities. In order to make sure safety is adhered to and compliance to safety regulations are achieved, containers filled with hazardous material must be labeled properly. Creative Safety Supply is now offering LT GHS Die-Cut Labels that will assure proper markings for such containers. GHS stands for Globally Harmonized System, and is a labeling method or style for communicating potential hazards of any given chemical (similar to NFPA, RTK, or Color Bar labeling). It is emerging as a true global standard for hazard identification.
The LT GHS Die-Cut Labels provide the following information that is required by the Globally Harmonized System: Signal words to indicate the level of severity, hazard statements to describe the nature of the hazardous product, precautionary statements that describe the recommended measures that should be taken to minimize or prevent adverse effects resulting from exposure to the product, product identifier that will identify the substance, and supplier identification which states the name, address and telephone number of the manufacturer or supplier of the substance.
The LT GHS Die-Cut Labels are extremely tough and made of tear-resistant material for both indoor and outdoor use. The GHS labels are designed for use with LabelTac 4 and LabeltTac 4 PRO printers, also available through Creative Safety Supply, and come in either 1, 2, 3 or 4 diamond configuration, where each is used according to the number of types of hazards for the chemical. If a business is not knowledgeable about GHS, information about GHS labeling guidelines and pictograms can be gained through the GHS Labeling Guide that is offered free through Creative Safety Supply. A safety coordinator commented, “The GHS guide along with the GHS Die-Cut Labels was very helpful in complying with safety regulations. We feel safer knowing our chemicals are labeled properly.”
